What are UTM parameters?

UTM parameters are short text snippets added to the end of a URL that tell analytics tools (like Google Analytics or GA4) where your traffic is coming from. The five standard UTM parameters are utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, and utm_content.

Which UTM parameters are required?

Only utm_source, utm_medium, and utm_campaign are required. utm_term is used for paid search keywords, and utm_content is used to differentiate between links in the same campaign (e.g. two different banner ads).
